Mobile phones have become so important in our lives that we can skip our meals but can’t afford not to charge the battery of our phones. However, you cannot keep the charger of your mobile with you all the time and hence, the tech society is working hard on the concept of wireless charging to make it easy for you. Nevertheless, Sony has gone one step further and patented a new path-breaking technique which is based on the same technique.
With this technology, you will be able to charge the battery of your phone from another phone by keeping both the phones close to each other at a certain distance.
As per the patent filing, Sony is working on a wireless technology which will facilitate the exchange of power and data between the two consumer electronic products. In simple words, you will be able to charge your phone from your laptop, if both the devices are equipped with this technology. The title of the patent filing was ‘Configuration of Data and Power Transfer in Near Field Communications’ and it demonstrated a system of devices which were able to transfer power among them, by using the NFC (Near Field Communications) technology. So basically, an NFC chip is needed to be fitted in the device through which it will search and then exchange power or data with another device which will also have an NFC chip.
There is a similarity between this technology and Wi-Fi technology but here, one more concept is used which is called plurality of antenna systems. With this concept, the user will have the option to make choice as to which device to use for charging and exchanging data with his/her device, among all the available devices. However, nothing has been said regarding the distance in which the technique might work for the devices. This is what the patent document of Sony states, “The distances over which the wireless communication can be achieved is typically consistent with distances used for wireless electrical power transfer through the power transfer antenna.”
This technology will provide you freedom from carrying charging cables and heavy power banks to work or other places.
As we are reading the use of the NFC technology for power transfer for the first time and even that for certain distances, we are not sure whether this technology will become a reality or not.
